Getting Started
Get up and running with Sprigg in a few minutes. This guide walks you through creating your account, setting up your first property, connecting your irrigation controller, and configuring your zones.
1. Create Your Account
Visit app.sprigg.ai and click Get Started. You'll need to provide:
- Your name
- Email address
- A secure password
After signing up, check your inbox for a verification email. Click the link to verify your email address and activate your account. If you don't see it, check your spam folder or request a new verification email from the login page.
2. Set Up Your First Property
After logging in for the first time, you'll be prompted to set up your property. A property represents a single lawn or landscape you want Sprigg to manage. You can add multiple properties later depending on your plan.
Provide the following details:
- Property name — A label like "Home" or "Office Complex"
- Address — Used for weather data and location-based recommendations
- Coordinates — Latitude and longitude (auto-filled from address or manually entered)
- Grass type — e.g., Bermuda, Fescue, Kentucky Bluegrass, St. Augustine, Zoysia
- USDA zone — Your hardiness zone for seasonal adjustments
- Soil description — e.g., clay, sandy loam, silt (affects infiltration and water retention)
- Total lawn area — Approximate square footage of irrigated lawn
3. Connect Your Irrigation Controller
Sprigg works with Rachio and Orbit B-Hyve smart irrigation controllers. Go to Settings → Integrations to connect yours.
Rachio
- Open the Rachio app on your phone
- Go to Account Settings → Get API Key
- Copy your API key and paste it into Sprigg's Rachio integration field
- Click Sync — Sprigg will discover your device and import all zones
Orbit B-Hyve
- Enter your B-Hyve account email and password in Sprigg
- Click Sync — Sprigg will authenticate and import your devices and zones
See the Integrations page for detailed setup instructions and troubleshooting tips for each controller.
4. Configure Your Zones
After syncing your controller, go to Settings → Zones to review and configure each zone. For each zone, you can set:
- Category — Mark zones as lawn, garden, or non-lawn. Sprigg optimizes irrigation differently for each category.
- Description — Add notes like "Front yard, full sun" or "Back slope, shaded" to help the AI make better decisions.
Zone hardware details (precipitation rate, nozzle type, soil type, shade, slope) are automatically imported from your controller and used in watering calculations.
5. Set Watering Targets
Go to Settings → Property to configure your watering preferences:
- Weekly water target — How many inches of water your lawn needs per week (default: 1.0"). This is adjusted automatically based on evapotranspiration and weather.
- Max morning hour — The latest hour watering should start (e.g., 8 AM to water before the heat)
- Sunrise offset — Minutes before sunrise to begin watering for optimal absorption
6. Choose Your Mode
Sprigg operates in two modes:
- Audit mode (default) — Sprigg analyzes your lawn daily and provides recommendations, but does not automatically control your irrigation system. Great for getting comfortable with the platform.
- Active mode — Sprigg automatically executes watering decisions by sending commands to your controller. Your lawn runs on autopilot.
You can switch between modes at any time from settings. Active mode is available on qualifying plans.
